Listen to Bib's Eclectic Punk Rager "Freedom"

Omaha band lets freak flag fly on latest single from Pop Wig Records

High school is one big march to the middle. For many kids, the weirder and more outwardly expressive you are with your interests and personality, the more likely that you'll be labeled a freak or an oddball. The irony there is as you get older, it's creativity and the ability to think outside of the box that usually gets you the furthest with life, love and career.

Bib's greatest asset is the oddly eclectic nature of their approach. Out of the gate the Omaha-based band's aptly titled "Freedom" sounds like a Replacements or Dinosaur Jr. homage before settling into a very familiar volatile punk-riff pattern — but even that is overlaid with reverb-heavy, almost shoegaze-y coos. Once things start to groove a bit more, it's easy to see the world that Bib inhabits: psych-kissed furious punk that brings to mind bands like Gag, Hoax, Destruction Unit, Wiccans and more. "Freedom" is muscular yet odd, the kind of song where you don't know whether to mosh or dissect the intricacies with your friend over a cup of coffee. For the love of god, just don't try and do both at the same time.

Look for the new Bib EP via Pop Wig Records on Dec 1st. Chase Mason, of Gatecreeper / Spirit Adrift fame, handled the art on the release. Catch them on tour at the dates below. Tour poster by Jordan Carr of Oddities Prints.
