Machine Gun Kelly Disses Slipknot: I'm Happy I'm Not 50 Wearing a Fucking Weird Mask

This past weekend, both Slipknot and Machine Gun Kelly performed at Chicago's Riot Fest, with the former headlining the Riot Stage (as a last second replacement for Nine Inch Nails) while the latter performed on the event's neighboring Radical Stage. Perhaps bummed that the 'Knot were taking some of the spotlight off of his set with their competing time slot, MGK pulled no punches.

As widely reported by concertgoers, before launching into his song "Jawbreaker," the pop star said of Slipknot: "Hey, you wanna know what I'm really happy that I'm not doing? Being 50 years old wearing a fucking weird mask on a fucking stage. Fucking shit. So anyway, what's everyone's favorite candy? Reese's Pieces?"

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, he later added, "Turn the lights up. Let me see who chose to be here instead of with all the old weird dudes with masks."

It seems the feelings of distaste are mutual: Earlier this year, Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor clearly threw shade MGK's way, though he declined to explicitly say his name. "The [young artists] that really frustrate me are the ones that they take something that's been around forever and then just basically rework it and call it new — even though it's completely derivative," Taylor said on Cutter's Rockcast. "You know the band they're ripping off — they're not even trying to rip off a bunch of bands; they're ripping off one band. But the younger generation picks them up and says, 'This is our blah blah blah,' because they're tired of old people telling them that the music that came before them was better. And I don't know who's right, but I know both are wrong, because we should be encouraging everything."
