The Making of Evanescence's "The Chain" Video: Go Behind the Scenes

Amy Lee and Co. lift the veil

In early January, Evanescence premiered the smoke-shrouded, crimson-soaked apocalyptic music video for their cover of Fleetwood Mac's 1977 classic-rock essential "The Chain," which they recorded for the Xbox video game Gears of War 5. The P.R. Brown–directed clip sees Lee and her bandmates having "fun with smoke bombs in a post-apocalyptic world as we walk through the fire together," as the group put it on Twitter. The visual notably ends with the image of drummer Will Hunt's kit on fire, an obvious reference to the riot and destruction at Knotfest México. Now, Evanescence have offered up a cool behind-the-scenes mini-doc that takes fans into the making of the video. Watch above.

"The lyrics make me feel the power of standing together against great forces trying to pull us apart, perhaps even from the inside. I really wanted to drive that home in our version," Lee said of "The Chain" clip at the time of its release. Brown added, "The goal of the video is to show the bond of this band as they deliver a powerful take on a classic song. The tie-in with Gears 5 presented an opportunity to combine the game world together with the band performance in a post-apocalyptic setting. The band emerges from the ashes to come together. We wanted to bring these worlds together and feel both the force of the band and the game."

Evanescence are set to hit the road in Europe later this year on a co-headlining run with Within Temptation, under the banner "Worlds Collide" — see the itinerary below.
