Mars Volta Announce First Album in 10 Years, Debut New Song "Vigil"

Prog luminaries prepping follow-up to 2012's 'Noctourniquet'

Pre-order The Mars Volta on vinyl and/or CD — and pick up other Mars Volta classics — over at Revolver's shop.

Back in June, prog-rock luminaries the Mars Volta spontaneously re-emerged after a decade-long hiatus with their first song in as many years. Then, they dropped another in July. Now, the cult-adored duo comprised of ex-At the Drive In members Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala have given us the news we've all been waiting for — that their new, self-titled album will be arriving September 16th.

According to a press release, the band's follow-up to 2012's Noctourniquet will only include two songs that stretch beyond the four-minute mark, which is a notable detail for a band as historically ver bose as them. Additionally, as evidenced by the three singles we've heard thus far, including today's supple, "Vigil," the band's mind-bending prog tendencies have been paired back in favor of softer, more subtle songwriting choices.

The Mars Volta is out September 16th and is available for pre-order on vinyl and/or CD from our shop. Peep the cover art and track listing below.
