For the last ten years, Memphis May Fire have been one of the most well-liked bands in contemporary metalcore, building up an imposing catalog of sleek and catchy yet also heavy and groovy albums that're adorned with frontman Matty Mullins' uniquely soulful croon and bellowing screams. At this point, they're a household name to many listeners in the 'core world, but with their first album in four years, Remade in Misery, arriving this week (June 3rd), there's a good chance that newer metalcore fans — or older ones who've yet to take the MMF dive — need a good introductory track to start them on their journey.
For them, Revolver is here to help with our "Point of Entry" series, in which we ask artists to pick the one standout cut from across their entire catalog that they believe is the best place for virgin listeners to begin their journey. Below, Mullins himself does the honors. It's a tough choice.
"Blood & Water"
It always gets me so stoked thinking about someone checking out our music for the first time, I actually try to listen to our music from that perspective. The truth is, if you would have asked me this question a year ago, my answer would definitely be different. I've never been more excited about the music we are making so I would hands down recommend any new listener check out a tune from Remade In Misery, probably "Blood & Water."
That song is a perfect representation of who we are as a band. The angst, the hooks, the riffs, the rawness of the lyrics, and it's produced by our very own Kellen McGregor. Starting with this album and working backwards would be a rad way to discover us, in my opinion.
