MAX CAVALERA once shaved his head for a METALLICA album

"That copy of 'Ride the Lightning’ was worth it"

Max Cavalera is a hairy dude. The former Sepultura frontman — also of Soulfly, Nailbomb, Killer Be Killed, etc. — is most recognizable for his long locks of hesher hair, but at one point in his life, Cavalera was willing to part with his mane to get his hands on a Metallica album.

In a new interview with 96.7 KCAL-FM, the Brazilian musician recollected a time during his youth when he didn't have access to very much metal music, so when his cousin promised that he'd buy him anything he'd like if he chopped off his hair to go "straight and narrow," Cavalera decided that shaving his head was worth it for a copy of Metallica's Ride the Lightning

"I had a cousin that was trying to make me go to the straight and narrow," Cavalera said (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). "He was, like, 'You've gotta cut that long hair. I'll give you whatever you want. I'll buy you an imported record.' And I was, like, 'The hair will grow back again.' So I shaved it. I shaved my head. That copy of Ride the Lightning was worth it. It's a record that's worth shaving your hair for."

"Metallica rules," Cavalera added. What can you say?"
