Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer frontman Maynard James Keenan doesn't open up about his personal life very often, so when he does, you know it's important. The singer has had a hard year — his bands were all sidelined from the road amid the pandemic, and he contracted COVID twice — but that was only the tip of the iceberg, it turns out. As Keenan revealed in posts to social media today (August 12th) celebrating his wife Jen's birthday, she was diagnosed with cancer on Christmas eve.

"She didn't collapse into a pile of self pity," he writes. "She didn't launch into an entitlement rage. She didn't act out in any self destructive manner. Instead she asked the right questions, listened to her doctors, made a plan, and stuck to it. And when there were things she couldn't do on her own, she asked for help." Keenan recalls that before Jen started chemo, she cut off all her hair preemptively and asked their friend Brooks to make her "a wig to match."

"She's successfully navigated both the chemo and the surgery, and now begins the radiation. And all without whining or bitching," Keenan continues, before concluding: "She is my rock. She is my muse. She is my ALL. Be like Jen. Happy Birthday, My Love. Cheers to this one and many more."
