Maynard James Keenan Talks New Tool Album, Streaming, More on 'Joe Rogan'

Singer also discusses "aggressive" fans, being stubborn

A fun-spirited Maynard James Keenan went on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast yesterday, July 29th, to have a long conversation with his friend and host about a wide variety of topics, most notably discussing the upcoming addition of Tool's entire catalog to all streaming platforms, as well as the title of the band's upcoming album Fear Inoculum.

The singer paused early on in the segment (see above) to make the (now-day-old) announcements on Instagram and Twitter for fans across the world to see and joked about Tool's reputation for beating around the bush when it comes to new announcements and material.

"We're a very difficult band," he admitted. "We're very stubborn, and we're kind of ignorant to what goes on in the rest of the world, so people are like, 'Guys, come on, guys!' And you know, to their credit, we did the whole beta max thing — didn't work for us and neither did LaserDisc, so we had this new so we had this new thing called digital media and streaming. We're gonna try it out." He winked.

Rogan mentioned the "rabid" nature of the typical Tool fan, to which the frontman casually quips, "They're pretty aggressive," thought he shows some generosity towards said aggressive fans by spending the first 10 minutes of the interview sharing exclusively Tool news. He also vaguely suggests the wait time for the coming LP wasn't entirely his fault, saying the decisions this time around were "typical Tool time: 'What? There was a meeting?'"

That theme was continued when Rogan prodded as to why this Friday will mark their first foray into streaming. "I love my brothers," explained Keenan. "I'm just gonna take the fifth on that."

Regardless of whatever brotherly tension or disagreements the band may have undergone to get their current position, one things for certain: Tool finally has a new fucking album and it arrives August 30th. Pre-order information for Fear Inoculum is coming soon, as per Tool's most recent Instagram post
