Megadeth's Dave Mustaine Issues Heartfelt Message to Fans After Cancer Diagnosis

"We're gonna beat this thing together," musician says in new video

On June 17th, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine revealed in a Facebook post that he'd been diagnosed with throat cancer.

"It's clearly something to be respected and faced head on — but I've faced obstacles before," wrote Mustaine. "I'm working closely with my doctors, and we've mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate. Treatment has already begun."

Today, June 24th, the guitarist shared a heartfelt video message to fans on social media. "I wanted to take a moment real quick and thank my family, my friends and the best fans in the world for all of your support and love the last few days," he announced. "We're gonna beat this thing together."

Megadeth have canceled the bulk of their 2019 shows while Mustaine undergoes treatment. As of right now the Megacruise planned for October 13-18th is still scheduled to go on as planned and will feature acts such as Anthrax, Testament, Suicidal Tendencies, Overkill, Doro and more.

In a recent interview with The Classic Metal Show, bandmate Dave Ellefson spoke of his belief that his colleague would beat the disease and stated that the band was fully prepared to support him in any way that he needs throughout the treatment process. "If Dave hits a wall with it, 'Man, I just need to take a break just to get off the clock,' then we'll do that," he said. "But at least we can be working productively and getting some stuff done on the album right now."
