METALLICA: See Lars Ulrich sing and James Hetfield drum during "Am I Evil?" in 1992

With Kirk Hammett on bass and Jason Newsted on guitar

Way back on February 13th, 1992, Metallica decided to have a little fun during their epic-length show at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, California. During the second of three encores the band ripped through that night, they decided to take a spin through one of their favorite covers, Diamond Head's "Am I Evil?"

The big difference between this and every other version of the song that Metallica performed up to that point was that the group decided to swap roles onstage, with James Hetfield posting up behind the drum kit, Jason Newsted and Kirk Hammett swapping guitar and bass, and Lars Ulrich grabbing the mic to serve as vocalist.

As Ulrich told the crowd that night, this switch-up was something the band did every now and again "when we just want to have some fun and when we've played the same show too many fuckin' times." What follows is a loose, but surprisingly strong take on the metal classic, with Hetfield managing the thudding drum part with ease and Ulrich enjoying his moment in the spotlight — belting in what he dubbed his "Bruce Dickinson impersonation."
