Metallica's "Wherever I May Roam": J Balvin Makes It Reggaeton, Jon Pardi Takes It Country

Metallica's march toward the "Black Album"'s 30th anniversary continues, and today (July 21st) they've released three more morsels from both the gigundo deluxe box set edition of the upcoming reissue and the star-studded covers album, The Metallica Blacklist.

Today's installment focuses on the record's epic centerpiece, "Wherever I May Roam," and the covers portion features two wildly different artists flipping its iconic lead riff in inventive new directions. Reggaeton champion J Balvin loops the psychedelic lick over booming hip-hop drums while he raps acrobatically in Spanish.

On the other end of the spectrum is Nashville-based country artist Jon Pardi, who filters the metal banger through a classic Americana lens for his rendition. Additionally, Metallica themselves shared a live cut of "Wherever I May Roam" that was recorded in Oakland on October 12th, 1991, exactly two months after the Black Album was released.

Both the Black Album reissue and the covers album are set for release on September 10th. Revolver has copies of the Remastered Deluxe Box Set — which includes six LPs, six DVD, a 120-page book and a ton more — available in our shop.
