On Friday (May 3rd), Of Mice & Men unleashed the new song "Mushroom Cloud," a crushing cut about "how it feels to be someone with a mind that's as dangerous to themselves as the aftermath of an atomic weapon," according to frontman Aaron Pauley. The single arrived paired with a fittingly explosive music video. (Listen and watch below.)
Today, the band has teamed with Revolver to take fans on set for an inside look at the making of the video, which was much more lighthearted than the final product might suggest. Drummer Valentino Arteaga takes center stage in the behind-the-scenes clip, joking of his signature Mohawk as he and his bandmates get made up to look as if they've survived the apocalypse: "Through all the mushroom cloudage, the 'hawk stands!"
"There's something really exciting about writing a piece of heavy music and then diving back into that darkness to create a cohesive visual representation that not only amplifies the song but creates a whole new twisted realm for the viewer to immerse themselves in," Arteaga says, looking back on the "Mushroom Cloud" clip.
"It was such a pleasure working with Mark Lediard and James Baxter again for this 'Mushroom Cloud' music video. We knew they would bring the right visual and narrative elements to push the envelope for this project.
"Massive thanks to the fans who participated in the music video and the entire cast and crews who did an incredible job. This was such a fun project with an absolutely explosive finished product." Of Mice & Men are currently on the road — check out their upcoming itinerary below.
