Mike Patton went on Full Metal Jackie's radio show today to chat about his involvement with Dead Cross, the hardcore supergroup featuring members of Slayer, Retox and the Locust. In addition to discussing band's eponymous debut (released via Patton's Ipecac label in August) and the collaborative creative philosophy that inspired it, the multi-instrumentalist gave a status update on his best-known band, Faith No More, which returned from an extensive hiatus in 2015 with Sol Invictus, their first studio album in almost 20 years. As of right now, Patton says, the iconic alternative-metal group are on an "extended break."
"I would share, but I don't know anything," Patton said. "We're kind of on a extended break and if something happens, it'll happen organically and naturally," he continued, "but I kind of don't think it will. I kind of feel like we've tipped the scales a little bit, but we'll see, who knows — I've learned my lesson not to say no."
Dead Cross' future proves clearer, though not by much. Patton told Jackie he hopes to keep the band's momentum going — at least for the time being, both on the road (where they are currently, Patton's recent skateboarding accident, and its resultant show cancellation, be damned) as well as in the studio. "It's going so well and it feels really good," he said. "We get along real well. I don't see why we shouldn't put out a few more records and keep touring, so we'll see — I've learned to not make too many promises in advance, so, who knows?"
