Mike Shinoda has opened up about the meaning behind "Lost," the never-before-heard Linkin Park song that the band — who've been on hiatus since singer Chester Bennington's tragic death in 2017 —released today (February 10th) to kick off their celebration of Meteora's 20th anniversary. The previously unreleased B-side was initially recorded during the Meteora sessions two decades back, and in a new interview with KROQ, co-vocalist Shinoda racked his brain to remember the intended meaning behind the song's lyrical message.

"At the time, if I remember right — it was a long time ago. The inspiration was looking back on memories that you get sucked into," Shinoda said. "And you just get immersed in that nostalgia, or good feeling or bad feeling. In the case of this song I think there was a bunch of not-so-good stuff.

"But it's bittersweet, it's a mixed bag. Because there's good stuff in there, too. Things aren't black and white or cut and dry. And that's what I like about the lyrics of the song."

"But it's also a song that was this close to being on the record," Shinoda added. "The one right on the other side of the line was this song 'Lost' and the only reason it didn't go on is because it had the same intensity of 'Numb.'"

To commemorate the 20-year milestone of their smash, seven-times-platinum album, Linkin Park have launched several Meteora box sets that repackage the album in vinyl and CD form. The crown jewel is the "super deluxe" anniversary edition, a five-LP, four-CD, three-DVD mega-bundle that features six unreleased songs, demos, B-sides, live albums and much more.
