Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx on Modern Rock: "I Miss Some of the Slop"

Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx wouldn't mind if modern rock bands stopped producing their records to benign perfection. Recently asked about the state of rock music, the glam-metal icon pined for the days when bands preserved the imperfections that reveal the human element behind the instruments.

Sixx isn't the only rock musician who longs for a time when auto-tune and bass drops weren't commonplace on every major release, he's just the latest to poke the hornets' nest.

"My criticism is that it's extremely overproduced in a lot of cases," Sixx said in a recent interview with Classic Rock magazine. "It's ProTooled to death, it's chopped to death, and I miss some of the slop. I miss some of the flat notes. I miss when a guitar player doesn't exactly come down perfect. I kinda miss some of the nuts and bolts of just being in a raw rock'n'roll band.

"With that being said, there's some cool bands that are coming out and just going to the studio and cutting it pretty much live off the floor, and it's real — you can feel it, that they mean it."

Mötley Crüe are set to kick off their long-delayed stadium tour with Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett tonight (June 16th) in Atlanta, Georgia.
