It actually happened: Mudvayne played their first show in more than a decade. The shape-shifting alt-metal group — vocalist Chad Gray, guitarist Greg Tribbett, bassist Ryan Martinie and drummer Matthew McDonough — took the stage at Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival in Mansfield, Ohio, tonight (September 11th), bringing to fruition the highly anticipated reunion that they announced back in April. Fans had clamored for a re-formation for years, with rumors heightening in intensity with the 20th anniversary of Mudvayne's milestone debut album, L.D. 50, last summer.
For those wondering what Mudvayne might look like in 2021, the answer was a satisfying throwback to 2000 when it came to Gray, who even rocked the forehead bullet wound and extra-long, double-ended blue braided beard from two decades ago. His bandmates, meanwhile, took a more stripped-down approach. As for the song selection, it encompassed many fan favorites, leaning heavily on L.D. 50, of course. Next up for Mudvayne are performances at Louder Than Life (September 23rd-26th in Louisville, Kentucky), Aftershock (October 07th-10th in Sacramento, California) and Welcome to Rockville (November 11th-14th in Daytona Beach, Florida).
