Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam Members Form Grunge Supergroup 3rd Secret, Release Debut Album

Krist Novoselic, Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, more play in new band

There's a new grunge supergroup in town. Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil and Soundgarden/Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron have formed a new band called 3rd Secret that also features guitarist Bubba Dupree (of highly influential 1980s hardcore band Void) and singers Jennifer Johnson and Jillian Raye, who both play in Novoselic's other band Giants in the Trees. The seven-piece have not only announced their existence — they've also surprise-released their debut album, a self-titled affair produced by iconic grunge boardsmith Jack Endino (Nirvana, Soundgarden, etc.).

From first listen, the album sounds like a culmination of all the band members' various projects. It's got the Seventies hard-rock twanginess of Pearl Jam, the muscular heft of Soundgarden and the woodsy melodic alt-rock of Giants in the Trees. Listen to the full album above via YouTube and check out the official unveiling of the band below via Matt Cameron's Instagram.
