The Grammy Awards haven't had heavy metal at the forefront of their concerns for quite some time now, if ever really, but many fans are up in arms over the televised portion of the 61st Awards ceremony's exclusion of the late Vinnie Paul in their "In Memoriam" segment. The Pantera and Hellyeah drummer passed away in June 2018 from dilated cardiomyopathy, or an enlarged heart and coronary disease.
The academy didn't completely forget about Paul though, as he is listed with several hundred other musicians and folks important to the industry on their official site under the "Recording Academy Remembers Those We Lost: Grammy In Memoriam" section. Time constraints prevent the awards from including every person on the list in their on-air remembrance segment, an unfortunate situation that also resulted in the exclusion of late Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman from the 2014 edition of the award show.
Among those listed on the site from the heavy music world are Motörhead's "Fast" Eddie Clarke, Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan, and Cave In bassist Caleb Scofield, all of whom we paid tribute to in December 2018 with the Revolver "In Memoriam: Musicians We Lost This Year" feature.
