Long-awaited film Hair Metal Shotgun Zombie Massacre has been in the works for several years now, but a tantalized new teaser has been released today (February 8th). It's a teaser clip of ex-Pantera singer Philip H. Anselmo's original theme song for Slayer's Tom Araya, who makes a cameo in the movie.
While the snippet is merely 20 seconds long, that's enough to get a solid taste for the crushing staccato riffs weighed down with Anselmo' southern heaviness done up in outrageous theatrical style. Chugging guitars, lumbering drums and brutal vocals kick in just as the clip fades out, clueing listeners in on what kind of heaviness they can expect.
The film follows the adventures of a hair-metal group that is having troubling finding its footing in the music world, so the band members decide to take off to a cabin for a drug- and booze-fueled songwriting and recording session. They end up unlocking a portal of souls that possess the corpses in a nearby cemetery and have to survive the ensuing chaos while battling to get a record contract in the process.
Directed by Josh Vargas and narrated by The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus, the movie is sure to be a campy good time for metal and horror fanatics alike. Vargas said in a statement, "This is a film made FOR fans of horror and metal BY fans of horror and metal and it was important that the film and soundtrack reflected that, from having Philip do Tom's theme song to having '80s metal legends HELSTAR do the music for the band in the movie."
