The Pretty Reckless are gearing up to release their highly anticipated new album, Death by Rock and Roll, on February 12th, and ahead of the big drop, singer Taylor Momsen recently guested on Spotify Original's show "Rock This With Allison Hagendorf." The episode, which can be streamed below, finds Momsen discussing the upcoming LP, her collaborations with Soundgarden's Matt Cameron and Kim Thayil and Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello, the experience of performing at the Chris Cornell "I Am the Highway" tribute show and more.
"Tom and I had known each other for many years," she said of working with Morello. "We met years ago and kind of kept meeting here and there, but we really kind of reconnected at the Chris Cornell 'I Am The Highway' tribute because we were both playing on 'Loud Love' together so that's really where we re-bonded or whatever you want to call it.
"And then when we were making the album and I had written the song 'And So It Went' — I couldn't hear it without him on it. Like, Tom is so unique as a guitar player he has such a specific sound. And that's my favorite thing about guitar players in general, but especially the great ones. And let's be honest, Tom Morello is a great guitar player. He's a legend. And they have such a unique voice. ... I sent him the song and I said, 'Hey, would you want to lend your magic to this and play a solo on this?' And he heard it and he said, 'Absolutely.' And when we got the tracks back and we put it all together, it just did exactly what you want it to do. I mean, it's Tom Morello just coming in and wailing and taking the song to the umpteenth level, like, at least for me as a fan of his, it's everything I want from a Tom Morello guitar solo. Like, it's just so definingly him."
