In some of the biggest news to hit heavy music this year, Rage Against the Machine have announced that they will reunite in 2020 for a string of live dates, Forbes reports. The performances will be the band's first in eight years — the politically charged rap-rock icons last played together at their 2011 L.A. Rising show at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
Fans have since gotten their fix of RATM songs with Prophets of Rage, the supergroup featuring the band's guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk along with Public Enemy's Chuck D and Cypress Hill's B-Real, who have been playing the group's classic material as well as new originals. As for vocalist Zack de la Rocha, he has also stayed busy in the interim, pumping out some solo material in 2016 and apparently holding on to enough as-yet-unreleased tracks for fill out a complete album.
Live dates announced so far include two in Indio, California, scheduled for the same April weekends that the music mega-festival Coachella will be taking place in the town. The news was broken with little fanfare via the band's just-created official Instagram account, which has racked up over 10,000 followers since the news began spreading virally hours ago. Wayne Kamemoto, who Forbes describes as a "longtime associate of the band," confirmed the news, as well, simply stating: "The band's social media is accurate." No venues have been named yet, but follow along for more information as it rolls out.
