Rage Against the Machine's Zack de la Rocha Injures Leg Mid-Set, Finishes Show Sitting Down

Last night (July 11th), Rage Against the Machine played their second show in 11 years — night two of their momentous reunion tour — and things did not go as planned. Performing in Chicago, vocalist Zack de la Rocha injured his leg early in the set (according to reports on social media, during the fourth song, "Bullet in the Head") and, after briefly leaving the stage, returned and finished the rest of the set while seated.

"I don't know what happened to my leg right now," de la Rocha told the crowd, as you can view below in video shot by Chevelle's Pete Loeffler, who was in the audience. "Straight up, but you know what? We're gonna keep this fucking shit going. I can crawl across this stage. We're gonna play for you all tonight" — upon which the band kicked into "Testify."

The Rage vocalist performed the rest of the set (which included the tour debut of "Down Rodeo") sitting on an onstage monitor and, when he did stand, it appeared that he couldn't put any weight on the leg. At the end of the night, staff came onstage and carried him off. "Zack de la Rocha just gave a better performance while sitting than most artists give on their two feet," wrote one fan on Twitter.

Rage Against the Machine are due to perform a second show at Chicago's United Center tonight (July 12th), but have yet to comment on de la Rocha's injury, or how it will affect the rest of the Public Service Announcement tour.
