Though they never achieved the acclaim or success of the "Big 4" of thrash — Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax — L.A. county's Dark Angel made their mark on the heavy-metal underground. The band's 1985 debut LP, fitting titled We Have Arrived, turned heads. Its follow-up, '86's Darkness Descends, positively snapped necks, and is now widely acknowledged to be a classic of the genre. Over the next few years, Dark Angel continued to hone and evolve their sound, dropping a pair of criminally underappreciated full-lengths, both originally released by thrash stronghold Combat Records: 1989's Leave Scars and 1991's Time Does Not Heal. Now, nearly 30 years later, Revolver has reissued those two LPs in exclusive, badass "Combat Camo" vinyl editions limited to just 200 copies worldwide — get yours before they're gone!
Time Does Not Heal, in particular, proved to be a polarizing release. "Some of the reviews were incredible, even if some of the fans didn't like it," Dark Angel drummer Gene Hoglan (Testament, Death, Dethklok) recently told us. "I think Kerrang! gave it five out of five Ks and basically said Time Does Not Heal was the greatest record since Metallica's …And Justice for All and that it was going to completely propel this band to the next level." Sadly, instead, the album proved to Dark Angel's swan song.
