We're nearing the halfway point between Roadburn Festival's 2019 and 2020 editions, which means it's time for some more big announcement from the prolific Netherlands camp, including the surprise inclusion of two artists in residence for the first time ever: Full of Hell and Lingua Ignota will each perform multiple sets, spanning across their careers, to exemplify different aspects of their creative endeavors.
Also announced today are the addition of electronic duos Boy Harsher and HIDE to the lineup, as chosen by event curators James Kent (a.k.a. Perturbator) and Emma Ruth Rundle, respectively.
"I'm very happy to announce HIDE as the first band in my curation," explained Rundle of her first pick. "No one else is touching on all the subjects that really twist the blade in my being the way they can. Their work is brutal, visceral, painful and poignant in all ways."
Kent commented of his selection, "Boy Harsher brings a kind of visceral darkness through their minimal electronic beats that is extremely fascinating. The whispering-like vocals mixed with detuned-synths and old drum machines always felt to me like an invitation to a forbidden yet alluring world."
Kent's choices for the festival lineup also include L.A. act HEALTH, which he describes as "heavy electronics, pop vocals and aggressive noise" and Turkish darkwave icons She Past Away performing their most recent album Disko Anksiyete in its entirety.
Other artists announced for the event include Rotterdam quintet Dool (who made their Roadburn debut in 2016 with just one song out), Gothenburg drone act BADA, and the heavy psych maniacs of part-scripted/part-improv group Acid Rooster. Returning to the stages at the festival will be Vile Creature in a special collaborative event with Bismuth, commissioned projects from James Kent and Johannes Persson, and Julie Christmas returning after a triumphant 2018 set with Cult of Luna.
