SAMMY HAGAR really loves TOOL's 'Aenima'

In 2019, when TOOL, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer frontman Maynard James Keenan appeared on an episode of Rock & Roll Road Trip With Sammy Hagar, welcoming the former Van Halen singer to his home in Arizona, it seemed like a pretty damn weird pairing. But as it turns out, Keenan and Hagar are good friends, and as unlikely as it might seem, the Red Rocker is a very big fan of TOOL.

He's such a big fan, in fact, that when our sister magazine Goldmine asked him to pick "10 Albums That Changed My Life," Hagar included TOOL's groundbreaking third album, Ænima — also Revolver's favorite record by Keenan and Co. — alongside less surprising LPs by Jeff Beck, the Rolling Stones and David Bowie.

Check out Hagar's thoughts on Ænima below.

"This album is so great musically — and so remote from any record that I could ever make — that it drives and inspires me," Hagar enthused. "Ænima is so innovative, raw and dark. I've become friends with Maynard, and I think he's one of the great artists of our time. He's a genius and a complete renaissance man. We're kind of like the odd couple."
