See Acclaimed Post-Hardcore Trio Brutus Unleash "War" With Surging New Song

Stefanie Mannaerts sings and drums her heart out on emotive, post-rock–inflected single

Belgian post-hardcore trio Brutus exploded onto the scene in 2017 with their fittingly named debut album Burst, which won accolades from famous fans including Metallica's Lars Ulrich and then–Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Greg Puciato. As dense, nuanced and well-rounded as the band's music is, it's almost impossible for singer-drummer Stefanie Mannaerts not to steal the show: a powerhouse performer, her octopus-limbed, black-metal–inflected percussion and wide-ranging vocals, alternately screamy and dreamy, drive Brutus' dynamic, emotionally charged sound. Mannaerts shows off her chops some more on the group's new single "War," a surging, ethereal cut off the band's forthcoming sophomore offering, Nest, due March 29th via Hassle in Europe and via Sargent House in the rest of the world.
