Back in 2014, Richard D. James — better known as electronic-ambient icon Aphex Twin — released SYRO, his first album in over a decade. He's remained active since then, dropping an EP (2016's Cheetah) and the one-off tracks "korg funk 5" and "4xAtlantis take 1;" last year, he launched a rarity-centric streaming site featuring expanded takes on Aphex Twin songs. Today (August 7th), he's officially announced his latest release: Collapse, a five-track EP due out next month via Warp.
Arriving in tandem with James' announcement is "T69 Collapse," the album's glitched-out opener. Its accompanying CGI music video, directed by Weirdcore, takes the form of a computer screensaver on methanphetamine. The clip's so frenetic, in fact, that last night's previously-scheduled world premiere — via a TV segment on Adult Swim — had to be cancelled at the last minute because it failed a screening for potential seizure-inducing imagery, as NME points out.
The Collapse EP arrives September 14th via Warp. Pre-order it here, and check out the artwork and track listing below.
