It's hard to believe that Cherubs — who returned after a 20-year hiatus with 2015's 2 YNFYNYTY — have now outlasted their original three year run. The Austin-based band, who was originally signed by King Coffey of Butthole Surfers in the early Nineties, now evens out their post-reunion output with the release of Immaculada High, the band's new LP due on July 26th on new label home Relapse Records.
"18 the Number" is the first single and video to arrive via Cherubs from the forthcoming LP. The video, which makes its debut here today (June 18th), is a psychedelic mash-up of clips that reflects the band's overall approach: antagonistic yet playful and mischievous. Musically, the track is a catchy and muscular exercise that will please devotees of their previous work as well as fans of Unsane, Melvins and the like.
Guitarist-vocalist Kevin Whitley offered the following, appropriately psychedelic, thoughts on the video: "Rabbit wanted to go to the moon. Rabbit asked the birds, but Eagle was busy and Hawk was too low, so Crane would have to do. The journey was long and Rabbit was heavy. Crane's legs stretched, and Rabbit's paws bloodied, but they made it... and Rabbit patted Crane's head red in thanks. Love, Us.'
