See Black-Metal Band Antre Nod to 'The Exorcist' in Glitchy VHS-Style Video

Antre — a rising black-metal quintet out of Nottingham, U.K. — like to do things the DIY way. They self-recorded their intensely atmospheric nine-track new album, Void, in an ancient church, and the music video for the lead single, "Suffer the Light," from the LP, which is due February 22 via Withered Hand Records, was edited and produced by guitarist Donny Hopkins, using video of a sold-out live show and found footage contributed by the rest of the band, alongside old public domain reels. Check out the dark, glitchy visual above.

"I have a fascination with retro hardware VHS, old arcade machines and consoles, CRT TVs, and tried to emulate the feel of a 'found' VHS tape using modern equipment," explains Hopkins. "Also, trying to factor in some my favorite horror tropes, such as subliminal imaging from classic films such as The Exorcist."

Guitarist Chris Marsland adds of the song, "'Suffer the Light' is an incredibly important song to me. It was the first track we wrote as a band two years ago. It's amazing to work this song from its embryonic drum and guitar track all the way to the video we have now."
