Philly band confronts personal demons in disturbing clip for new song, produced by Converge's Kurt Ballou

Philadelphia-based harsh noise/black metal outfit Crowhurst is the prolific project of mastermind Jay Gambit, whose countless releases on the group's Bandcamp number 75+, including frequent splits and collaborations with established artists. With a new album titled III arriving in a few weeks, the band has pulled out an all-star roster (including Primitive Man's Ethan Lee McCarthy and Tara Vanflower of Lycia guest spots) to create something memorable, disturbing, and sure to stand tall amid their imposing discography.

Produced by Converge guitarist/GodCity Studio owner Kurt Ballou and co-written by Gambit and Andy Curtis Brignell of Caïna, "Ghost Tropic" is a haunting song that combines a dark, foreboding gothic introduction that slowly but furiously whips into a scorching epic that takes the gnarliest bits of black metal and hardcore and fuses them to create a hypnotic, entrancing aura. Paired with a video by photographer Jane "Pain" Chardiet (whose work can be found on Pharmakon's Beastial Burden and Contact) in her directorial debut, the song and visual explore the darker sides of pain and catharsis, with a touch of inevitable failure and loss thrown in to highlight the bleaker realities of life.

"Ghost Tropic is a song about fighting as hard as you can and still losing completely and absolutely over and over again until the loss engulfs you," explains Gambit. "Be it mental illness, lost love, addiction or otherwise - there is a place where hell is made and evolves into any environment you step in. No matter how much you try and plead and turn it off, it follows you."

The clip features a blackened-eye and soaking wet actress isolated in a stark room. Seemingly possessed by an evil force, her body and face contort in heinous, uncomfortable positions before ending up on the floor in a seizure-like position. Mysterious hands hover above and pour nauseating liquid onto the floor near her body, and the cycle of poses and scenes repeats in a hopeless, desolate pattern that lend a special horror to the rising cacophony of the track.

Crowhurst's III is out April 5th on Prophecy Productions. Pre-orders are available on digital and vinyl here. The band will appear live at the upcoming 2019 edition of Tilburg, Netherlands acclaimed festival Roadburn. Follow their Facebook for more information.
