In December 1980, Black Sabbath unleashed their legendary, Ronnie James Dio–helmed comeback single, "Die Young." Taken from the icons' ninth album Heaven and Hell — their first album with the former Rainbow vocalist, who took Ozzy Osbourne's place in 1979 — the churning, powerful ripper peaked at #41 on the U.K. Singles chart, snuffing out any lingering doubts that the band had lost their way in the wake of the Ozzman's absence.
Indeed, between Dio's hair-raising, operatic melodies and Tony Iommi's weeping guitar riffs, it's easy to see why so many fans regard "Die Young" as the apex of the Dio era. Thus, we're taking a turbo-charged trip down memory lane with one of the band's definitive "Die Young" performances: a potent rendition filmed during their October 17th, 1980 show at the Nassau Coliseum in Hempstead, New York.
