See Brass Against's Intense Big-Band Cover of Tool's "Ænema"

Prog-metal act's seething 1996 classic gets funky, horn-heavy reinvention

New York City–based big-band collective Brass Against have returned with another carefully selected and highly practiced cover song, this time taking on the title-track to Tool's classic 1996 album Ænema. The arrangement, done up by the usual BA suspects Andrew Gutauskas and Brad Hammonds, features singer Samuel Hope (the group's regular stand-in on Tool tracks) delivering an impressive take on Maynard James Keenan's notoriously complex and intense vocal parts for the intricately layered piece.

Another standout performance in the beautifully shot, in-studio clip comes from drummer Nathan Ellman-Bell. Rhythmic patterns in Tool songs are often complex (as Keenan recently discussed with Sammy Hagar) and at the 2:55 mark, the percussionist delivers the triplet-based pattern with stunning accuracy and finesse.
