See Cave In, Converge, Old Man Gloom, More Perform at Caleb Scofield Benefit

New England metal community honored fallen Cave In bassist on June 13th

On March 28th, 2018, Caleb Scofield — best known as the bassist and vocalist for post-metal bands Cave In, Old Man Gloom, and Zozobra — lost his life in a car accident at the age of 39. To honor the late musician and provide financial support for his family, his bandmates and peers played a benefit show on June 13th at Boston venue Royale. The event featured performances from all three of Scofield's bands, as well as local contemporaries Converge and the Cancer Conspiracy. Pro-shot footage of the event has since become publicly available.

Cave In and Zozobra's sets featured several notable moments, as Brooklyn Vegan points out. Cave In's set featured a cover of Neil Young's "Harvest Moon," performed by Caleb's brother Kyle and frontman Stephen Brodsky; rare performances of "Tension in the Ranks" and "Off to Ruin," and more. Meanwhile, the latter set found Isis main man Aaron Turner sharing the mic with All Pigs Must Die singer Kevin Baker, Zozobra's Adam McGrath, and Brodsky. This fall, Isis will reunite under the name Celestial at the second Caleb Scofield benefit, to be held October 13th at Los Angeles venue the Wiltern. Cave In, Old Man Gloom, Pelican, and 27 are also set to pay tribute.
