Backseat sulking meets brutal sensuality

Chelsea Wolfe has shared a haunting, self-directed music video for "Spun," one of the highlights from her excellent new album Hiss Spun. The clip channels the song's tragic undertones (unrequited love, sexual starvation, existential angst) into a trippy, blurry romp through backseats and boudoirs, interspersed with hypnotic, sensual dance sequences starring pole dancer Felicia Drake (or, to borrow Wolfe's epithet, "the siren we seek on our fucked-up journey through memories and dreams.")

If all that writhing around in the back of a limousine reminds you of Nine Inch Nails' "Starfuckers, Inc." video, you're not alone; in fact, Wolfe cites that iconic visual as one of several inspirations for her "Spun" visual. "We took visual inspiration from the sexy, red-lit confines of a photo darkroom: our favorite Nineties videos like Nine Inch Nails' 'Starfuckers,' Fiona Apple "Criminal" and the moods of Garbage's "Stupid Girl," she explains, "but also from our own lives  — 'cause this shit is DIY!"

Wolfe released Hiss Spun back in September. She's currently touring behind the album with Youth Code — find a complete list of dates here.
