For the last two years, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and eight-time Grammy winning producer Greg Kurstin celebrated the Jewish Festival of Lights with a series they dubbed Hanukkah Sessions, in which they covered eight songs by prominent Jewish artists — from a death-metal rendition of Lisa Loeb's "Stay" to a bangin' cover of the Ramones' "Blitzkrieg Bop."
This year, they filmed the series at a live show at The Coronet in Los Angeles that featured a smattering of special guests, and they're rolling out footage one song per night for the next eight nights. Yesterday (December 18th), they kicked off the series with a cover of Blood, Sweat & Tears' "Spinning Wheel" that features none other than director Judd Apatow on the mic.
Grohl sits behind the kit, Kurstin's on the keys, and they have a whole-ass backing band filling in the gaps — making this the most fleshed-out Hannukah Sessions song yet. See it go down above via YouTube and read what Grohl had to say about the song below.
A little blood and plenty of schvitz went into this year’s Hanukkah Sessions— but the only tears you’ll be shedding will be tears of nachas when you hear @JuddApatow sing “Spinning Wheel” by Blood, Sweat & (No) Tears!#happyhanukkah #hanukkahsessions pic.twitter.com/Q6v6LKeLNC
