See Dave Grohl Join Trombone Shorty for Raucous Nirvana "In Bloom" Cover

Foo Fighters' frontman got behind the kit for New Orleans band's horn-filled reworking of grunge classic

Over the weekend, Dave Grohl took the stage at Los Angeles' Greek Theater for a cover of his seminal grunge band Nirvana's song "In Bloom" alongside New Orleans jazz/soul act Trombone Shorty & Orleans avenue. Grohl, Nirvana's drummer until singer Kurt Cobaine's tragic suicide in 1994, stepped behind the kit among a whole group of various percussionists for an instrumental brass-heavy version of the 1992 hit single. The upbeat, danceable rendition included a trombone solo by bandleader Shorty, an accomplished virtuosic multi-instrumentalist who is also an activist in the New Orleans area. The Trombone Shorty Foundation partners with schools across New Orleans to help bring instruments to lower income students who are interested in music.
