See Dave Grohl's First Public Performance Since Taylor Hawkins Death

For over three decades, Dave Grohl has been one of the most ceaselessly prolific figures in rock music — a guy who's constantly showing up onstage, whether to perform with his band the Foo Fighters or to collaborate with another famous friend. However, after the unexpected death of Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins back in March of this year, Grohl abruptly exited the public limelight to grieve in solitude. 

Now, it seems like he's gradually beginning to re-emerge. Just over a week after the Foo Fighters began rolling out the all-star lineup for the Taylor Hawkins tribute shows in L.A. and London later this September, Grohl returned to the stage over the weekend (June 25th) for the first time since Hawkins' death — joining Paul McCartney at Glastonbury Festival to perform the Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There" and Wings' "Band On The Run."

As Loudersound notes, McCartney introduced Grohl as "my friend, your hero" and after a tiny bit of friendly banter, the two launched into the aforementioned tracks. Then, to close out his 38-song setlist, McCartney invited Bruce Springsteen (who made an appearance earlier in thet set) and Grohl onstage together so the three of them could play the Beatles' "The End." 

During that appearance, Grohl said that he powered through two canceled flights to make it out to the U.K. festival, telling McCartney that he remained dedicated to making the journey because "I swear I would never miss being onstage with you right now."
