In its efforts to raise awareness of and concern for Alzheimer's disease and other dementia, the Alzheimer's Association recently launched "Music Moments," a shareable movement encouraging people to post their own music moments on social media using the hashtag #MyMusicMoment. Two of the latest participants are Megadeth main man Dave Mustaine and his daughter, Electra, who shared their cover of the Beatles' "Come Together" as part of the campaign. Recorded at the Mustaine home, with Dave wearing a mask to protect from coronavirus, the video also serves to spread the message of self-quarantining and social-distancing amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
In the caption to their Instagram post, Electra wrote: "Come together! Right now... QUARANTINE!
"Here's a lil' #MyMusicMoment with my dad, @davemustaine, someone who I'd never want to lose! THAT is why the Mustaine's stay home. We hope you do too! Wash your hands, practice social distancing, & stay healthy."
Alzheimer's awareness and treatment is a subject close to the Mustaine's hearts since Dave's mother-in-law, Sally Estabrook, was suffering from a "severe" stage of the disease before she was found dead in November 2014. Earlier this month, the Alzheimer's Association released Music Moments, a compilation album of new recordings and unreleased tracks from Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Sting, Band of Horses and more "honoring the personal, emotional connection between music and life's most important moments that we would never want to lose to Alzheimer's and all other dementia." Music Moments is available on all major streaming platforms now.
