See Deathchant's Wild, Hilarious New "Holy Roller" Video

Trippin', ripping quads, disposing bodies

Los Angeles foursome Deathchant specialize in a raucous, freewheeling mix of Thin Lizzy-esque proto-metal and Melvins-style sludge. Their sound is groovy, doomy and readymade for a good time. "I'd say it has sort of a DIY L.A. punk aesthetic," singer-guitarist TJ Lemieux says of the band's upcoming LP, Waste, which is due out June 25th. "Very ironically going hand in hand with a classic metal vibe: Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, classic Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and other melodic heavy rock bands."

The recently released single "Holy Roller" is a stellar showcase of Deathchant's approach, and today (May 13th), the group has teamed with Revolver to premiere its fun, DIY music video. The clip, filmed by the band members themselves on their phones, captures their anarchic sense of humor, which, when matched with Deathchant's infectiously scuzzy sound, makes for a fine pairing — watch above.

"Shooting 'Holy Roller' was fun as hell and really on-the-fly, which fits the video's concept," Deathchant singer-guitarist TJ Lemieux tells us. "The concept is loosely all of us doing our thing and realizing one by one that we're supposed to be playing a weird backyard show. Gorg is trippin', TJ is half dead and on all the fun things, Doug's ripping a quad 'round L.A. and Joe's at our buddy's shop disposing of a body ... Shot it all on our iPhones at the Deathchant house and Lucky Wheels garage. A lot of the shit in the video is real. The video has absolutely nothing to do with the lyrical concept, though, which is a buncha bleak apocalyptic religious shit."
