Metal screamer unleashes hellish shrieks over 2000s piano-pop hit

Karaoke isn't the easiest game for extreme-metal musicians to partake in. While your average dive bar is sure to have a few Metallica and Korn bangers in their karaoke songbook, any song with guttural screams is likely a no-go. That wasn't a hindrance for one local metal screamer, who took it upon himself to flip Vanessa Carlton's iconic 2001 piano-pop hit, "A Thousand Miles," into a pulverizing deathcore ass-beater at his neighborhood open mic night.

In a video of the performance that recently went viral on TikTok, the screamer can be seen decked out in a Suicide Silence shirt while he unleashes feral bellows of the song's hook in front of a big screen portraying the distinctly un-metal lyrics. As Metal Hammer points out, the musician has been identified as the Instagram user Tom the Hateful, and he fronts his very own grindy death-metal band called Dross — which isn't surprising to learn given how on-point his screams are during the Karaoke video. Watch Mr. Hateful do his thing below via TikTok.
