On August 6th, 2011, Deftones played the Lollapalooza festival at Grant Park in Chicago, ripping through a 14-song set that spanned from their 1995 debut, Adrenaline, to their most recent offering at the time, 2010's Diamond Eyes. The performance culminated in a wild rendition of Adrenaline favorite "7 Words" that saw singer Chino Moreno not only sharing the mic with concertgoers and ultimately crowdsurfing on top of them but also interpolating Katy Perry's pop smash "Firework" into the middle of the song! It's a surprising, tongue-in-cheek twist on the ferocious original that Deftones have broken out live a few other times, but never better than at Lollapalooza. For what it's worth, the Katy Perry quote seems to have come from a place of real fandom, not winking irony: Moreno has also been spotted by fans joyously dancing to "Firework" at a random club.
