On November 20th, 2009, Deftones put on one of two benefit shows for their severely injured bassist Chi Cheng, who was racking up medical bills after a nasty car crash. The circumstances of the evening were unfortunate — doubly so looking back, given that Cheng tragically passed away in 2013 — but the silver lining was that the shows featured a litany of incredible performances.

Perhaps the most memorable of all was when System of a Down's Daron Malakian, Shavo Odadjian and John Dolmayan joined Deftones' Chino Moreno and Stephen Carpenter onstage to perform a couple cuts off SOAD's 2001 smash, Toxicity.

With Moreno taking on Serj Tankian's vocal parts to harmonize with Malakian, and Carpenter providing an extra wall of guitar textures, the five musicians busted through incredible renditions of "Aerials" and "Toxicity."

Although Deftones and SOAD are two of the most popular alt-metal bands of all time, you wouldn't necessarily think that their styles — Deftones' cool, sensual swagger and System's erratic hyperactivity — would mesh that well, but the bands sound remarkably in-sync during this performance.
