See Deftones Play "Gauze" for First Time Ever at Cure's Pasadena Daydream Fest

'Koi No Yokan' highlight got live debut 7 years after album's release

From its soaring sing-along chorus to its doomy outro, the song "Gauze" is one of the highlights of Deftones' 2012 album, Koi No Yokan. Surprisingly, though, the band had never played it over the course of the last seven years — until this weekend. On Saturday, August 31st, the Sacramento alt-metal leaders — decked out in summery white and taking the stage in the bright daylight — played the Cure-curated Pasadena Daydream Festival, and treated lucky attendees to the tune's live debut. Chino Moreno and Co. seemed to relish performing the song onstage for the first time ever, and the fans on hand savored the moment, too — as seen in the fan-shot footage above. Pixies, Mogwai, Chelsea Wolfe, Emma Ruth Rundle and more also played the fest.

Deftones have a couple other festival appearances scheduled for later this year, including headlining the second annual edition of their own Dia De Los Deftones. (See those dates below.) The quartet have also been working on their next album, the follow-up to 2016's Gore, which is expected in 2020.

Deftones live dates:
10/13 Manchester, TN – Exit 111 Festival
11/02 San Diego, CA – Dia de los Deftones
