Fresh off breaking the internet and wowing the rock/metal world with his deft, kinetic live cover of Rage Against the Machine's "Bulls on Parade," rapper Denzel Curry has revisited his own original music, specifically, the song "Black Balloons" (stylized as "13lack 13alloonz") off his ambitious 2018 album TA13OO, originally released in three parts. A prequel of sorts of to his "Clout Cobain" clip, the cinematic visual traces Curry's Faustian journey from unknown rapper to hip-hop mega-star. Tempted by a creepy record exec, he signs on the dotted line and falls headlong into a surreal, sci-fi world of excess and opulence, but of course it all comes with a dark side. Live action turns to twisted, old-timey animation, and by the end, our hero finds himself in clown face behind bars. Fortunately, in real life, Curry is very much a free man and about to head out on tour with Billie Eilish — see dates below.
