Based on the Ukrainian folk chant "Shchedryk," "Carol of the Bells" is probably the most metal Christmas carol of the bunch. August Burns Red and Savatage have notably covered the traditional yuletide sing-along, while the internet is full of other heavy-metal versions, most leaning into the epic, symphonic scope and heft of the song. Now, tech-death outfit Entheos have taken a crack at it, and their rendition has to be the most brutal yet.
As the band explains in the description to their newly posted YouTube video, in the lead-up to Christmas, vocalist Chaney Crabb was asked to make a metal rendition of a holiday song for the podcast Your Mom's House (Live!). Entheos had so much fun with it that they decided to share the cover with their fans.
The group's version does not disappoint, radically flipping the family-friendly carol into a gut-punching death-metal rager, with Crabb stealing the show with her absolutely ferocious roars and shrieks of the song's heartwarming lyrics. Watch above.
