Amy Lee: "We wanted to paint a dark and epic picture"

Late last year, Evanescence put their operatic, alt-metal spin on Fleetwood Mac's 1977 classic-rock monster "The Chain" for the Xbox video game Gears of War 5. "This cover was so fun to make," singer Amy Lee said at the time. "We love Fleetwood Mac and wanted to paint a dark and epic picture with our take on 'The Chain.'"

Today, January 8th, Evanescence offered up the moody, crimson-soaked music video for the cover song, which helps paint that dark and epic picture. Earlier this week, the group gave fans sneak peeks of the clip via Spotify premium; the full video finds Lee and her bandmates having "fun with smoke bombs in a post-apocalyptic world as we walk through the fire together," as the group put it on Twitter. The visual also notably ends with the image of drummer Will Hunt's kit on fire, an obvious reference to the riot and destruction at Knotfest México. Watch it above.

Evanescence have been hard at work on new original material and, according to Lee, will begin recording some of it early this year. The band's last album was 2017's Synthesis, which features reinterpretations of the group's signature songs recorded with a full orchestra and additional electronic effects, as well two exclusive cuts, "Imperfection" and "Hi-Lo." Evanescence are set to hit the road in Europe later this year on a co-headlining run with Within Temptation, under the banner "Worlds Collide" — see the itinerary below.
