Metalheads — especially those who grew up in the Nineties — love Portishead, the U.K. trip-hop pioneers whose dark, slinky, noir odes provide a perfect respite from headbanging riffery and aggro roars. Count among those fans Faith No More. The alt-metal titans covered Portishead's "Glory Box" 17 times throughout 1995, when Mike Patton and Co. were touring behind that same year's King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime.
One such rendition took place on September 8th at the Monsters of Rock festival in Santiago, Chile, and it's a blast to hear Patton bring his inimitable croon to Beth Gibbon's iconic plea in the chorus: "Give me a reason to love you/Give me a reason to be a woman/I just want to be a woman." In all, it's a magical performance, with Faith No More making the decidedly un-metal song fully their own, much like they did with the Commodores' "Easy." Watch above.
