Dave Grohl got back in touch with D.C. hardcore roots

Last night (May 30th), Dave Grohl got back in touch with his D.C. hardcore roots. His current band, the Foo Fighters, helped christen The Atlantis — a new, 450-capacity venue built as a replica of the legendary 9:30 Club — and they opened their massive, two-hour set by covering Bad Brains' "At the Atlantis" (of course!) with Grohl's old Scream bandmate Pete Stahl. Watch fan-filmed footage of the raucous performance, which ended with Stahl in the audience, above.

If you're not in the know, Grohl joined Scream as a teenager in 1986 and drummed with them for four years and two studio albums, No More Censorship and Fumble, before the group's first breakup in 1990. (They've since reunited numerous times.) It was then that he tried out for Nirvana after being given Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic's phone number by the Melvins' Buzz Osborne.

Flash-forward 33 years: Foo Fighters' highly anticipated new album, But Here We Are, is due out June 2nd on Roswell Records/RCA Records and available for preorder now. Check out their full Atlantis setlist below.
