See Foo Fighters Cover Dead Kennedys With Serj Tankian in 2007

Dave Grohl and System of a Down singer took a "Holiday in Cambodia" at the VMAs

The Foo Fighters know how to have a good time, and at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, A.K.A. the VMAs, the Foos' hot pink suite at the Palms Hotel and Casino was the place to be. Dave Grohl and his partners in crime welcomed in a murderers row of famous guests, from Gnarls Barkley's Cee-Lo (who covered Prince with them) to Mastodon (who covered Led Zeppelin with them) to the man, the myth, the legend, Lemmy Kilmister (who sang Motörhead and Probot songs with them).

But perhaps the highlight of the night was when System of a Down's Serj Tankian jumped into the fray for a raucous take on the Dead Kennedys' blistering 1980 punk-rock screed "Holiday in Cambodia," off Jello Biafra and Co.'s seminal debut LP, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables. Tankian's eccentric vocal stylings are the perfect match for the song, and his and the Foos' joint rendition really highlights the influence that Dead Kennedys clearly have had on SOAD's politically charged spazz-metal.
