See Ghost Tease New Papa Emeritus Unveiling in Creepy "New Blood" Video

Swedish band is preparing to release as-yet-untitled full-length follow-up to 2015’s 'Meliora'

Mysterious Swedish band Ghost are no stranger to theatrics when it comes to deposing and appointing the series of menacing Papa Emeritus characters that have led the band through its last three albums.

Today, they released the "Chapter One: New Blood" video teasing the unveiling of the new Papa, who will front the band on its forthcoming, as-yet-untitled fourth album (the follow-up to 2015's Meliora) and recently announced "Rats! on the Road Tour."

In the stylized clip, we see Papa Zero, flanked by two diabolical children, strolling through "The Ministry" where he meets a mysterious woman, addressed only as "Sister." After a bizarre exchange about his health (and the appearance of a saxophone) and congratulations on his progeny's Grammy win, Sister lays it all out: "We need someone new," she says, "a firm leader with youth and stamina and sexual charisma."

In a recent interview with Revolver, Ghost mastermind Tobias Forge revealed some details about the new album: "It's a themed album around medieval times, but it's definitely clinging onto a lot of very current things. The Black Death [plague] is a great example of a turning point for a whole civilization. Complete villages were annihilated. Most people knew very little, so all of it was God or the Devil — and about their faith being questioned: Why are we being stricken down by this great scourge? It must be because of our not fearing God enough and all this superstitious bullshit."

The "New Blood" video comes on the heels of Ghost's cryptic "Happy Holidays" Easter message, which you can watch below.
